Welcome To Bespoke Photography

You are an individual, and this is reflected in the images I create - I feel it is important to get to know you, and the things that matter to you; therefore I always endeavour to get to know those with whom I am photographing.

Instead of offering prints, I offer digital image packages on DVD or Pen Drive. These high resolution, fully processed images give you the freedom to make any number of prints or books, in any sizes or quantities you desire.  I want you to be able to enjoy your fine portraits to their fullest – and on your own terms.   You’ll have the negatives forever in your care.

Thanks for stopping by - Hope to speak to you soon

“The reason for the beard? I was suffering from a very long period of depression, so I was up in Holywell for some time. You are not allowed sharp stuff there so I decided to let my beard grow. It got so long I started to bind it, then it became a feature. So really it’s a record of being well and not being in hospital.”

The first photography session I did with Theo was a Cake smash for his birthday, it was a great introduction to a wonderful child. The second was photographed in Wallace Park Lisburn, Theo was in great form as we walked through the glorious Wallace Park stopping at various different sunny spots to capture Theo doing his thing. The park was so busy so we tried to find some secluded locations. No need to pose Theo for his photography session as he was a natural. Below are some stand out shots from a fantastic photography session.

We started our day by shooting some shots at home. I always love photographing at home as the children feel comfortable in their own environment. The light was so beautiful and the backgrounds work so well for the portrait photography session. The wall paper perfectly complimented their cute little outfits. After various shots around the house we then walked to Bangor beach for the second half of the children’s portrait session.

Ruairi – Shot at Bangor Walled Gardens Bangor This was certainly the most theatrical portrait session I have had the pleasure to photograph; I was entertained constantly with singing, dancing, some very skillful Ninjutsu and even a performance from the Bugsy Malone musical, all beautifully performed in the glorious Bangor Walled Gardens soaked in sunlight. We got warmed up by shooting some frames as Ruairi naturally fell into some beautiful poses in the flowered archways. Her energy was infectious, and inspired some action shots which were taken as she raced around the gardens with 4 foot wild flowers as a backdrop. She kindly demonstrated some cool dance moves but wasn’t impressed with my attempts. Ruairi suddendly transformed into a masterful blue Ninja and demonstrated some super sword skills as I shot her in action. She needed little direction as she gracefully executed moves from the ancient art of Ninjutsu. I lost my breath and broke into a sweat as I chased her around the herb and topiary garden before she retreated into the shadows. Next was Bugsy Malone; my personal favourite.Ruairi burst into song and dance entertaining the locals sitting aorund the main water feature where captured quick fire shots to the […]

Inch Abbey, Northern Ireland was erected as an act of repentance for the destruction of the Abbey at Erinagh (or Erenagh) by de Courcy in 1177. It was colonised  by monks from Furness Abbey in Lancashire in 1180. I have photographed various portrait sessions in this atmospheric location over the years and it truly never fails to give me a sense of adventure and thrill.  It’s a joy to look for distinctive ways to use its environment to deliver beautiful photographs to my clients. Paul is a very talented singer song writer from Northern Ireland, we have worked together over the years, including an intriguing session on top of The Europa hotel. It was a joy to work with him again in this enchanting location. Pauls work can be seen here, check it out! www.facebook.com/paulmurphymusic

What cute little kid, heaps of character, this was shot in the client’s home. Some of the best sessions happen in the children’s own environment when they are at their most relaxed.

Landscape photography has always been a challenge for me – I can acknowledge the beauty in scenery, but people fascinate me, and I miss people when there are none in my images. However, I also feel that challenge improves creativity and reminds me that I have much more to learn.  I shot these images at Donaghadee Lighthouse just as the sun was setting; my girlfriend and I walked on the beach until the light was just right. These are my ‘first takes’ of the area and I hope to return again someday. Returning to the same location multiple times can offer different perspectives; like an old friend- whose conversation is never the same twice.

What a fantastic portrait session yesterday at Castle Gardens Lisburn, the sun soaked location was just perfect to photograph the little twin girls, who were cute as a button in their matching dresses. We took our time as giving children the chance to warm up and feel relaxed with the photographer is always a good tip.  So we tried a few warm up shots and walked for a while enjoying the sun in Lisburn.  It was the second time I have photographed this family and it is always a joy. We tried as much as possible to shoot in the shade where the sun was not overpowering, stopping here and there in various locations to take shots by trees and on the grass. At one stage the twins decided to take their shoes off and go barefoot and wore some adorable matching hats. By the end of the portrait session the girls were dancing and screaming ice cream (they were going for ice cream after the shoot) and just enjoying having their photograph taken.  Being patient while photographing Children’s portraits is so important, the light can be perfect, the location just right but if the kids sense they are being rushed […]

From my experience of photographing children, I love images where they are almost oblivious to the camera; where they are absorbed in whatever they are thinking about, or looking at. In these shots, I sometimes manage to capture this concentration, where Zak is contemplating the universe, or superheros! Although images with smiles are often the parents’ preference, children find it difficult to “just sit still and smile at the camera”, and while this may produce sometimes awkward smiles, allowing a child to embrace his/ her natural playful state allows me to appreciate their character, and reflect these in my images. Hillsborough Park is one of my favourite local locations; it’s a wonderful backdrop for portrait photography. Little Zak did really well in completing a full loop of the lake, stopping at various locations to take snaps of him doing his thing. Zak had a ball, and the pictures illustrate his character beautifully
